You are how you move.

Your body is the “you” I mean here. How your body feels and moves today is shaped by how you’ve used it over time. Every habit, posture, and motion plays a role.

When it comes to movement, we look at two key things:

  1. Your movement habits — how you regularly use your body.

  2. Your movement capacity — what your body is capable of doing.

Your movement habits are the patterns you fall into daily. Do you vary your positions and motions, or do you find yourself sitting most of the day—at breakfast, in the car, at work, and back again?

Your movement capacity is how freely your body can move right now. Can you touch your toes? Sit cross-legged on the floor? Relax into a deep squat? These abilities reveal what your Human Movement Sphere currently looks like.

Your capacity is shaped by your habits. You were born with a remarkable potential for movement—that’s obvious in children, gymnasts, martial artists, and dancers. Over time, many of us lose that potential—not because of aging, but because of how we’ve used (or not used) our bodies as we age.

When we change how we think about our body, we change how we move. And when we move differently with intention, we experience more ease, freedom, and resilience in our bodies.
