Therapeutic Massage

Appropriate for clients of all types, therapeutic massage is designed to calm the mind and relax the body. A variety of slow, purposeful massage strokes are utilized to target muscle tension and create a feeling of lightness, ease and peace.  A mix of soft tissue techniques are used along with a depth of pressure that meets your personal preference. If you prefer a deep tissue massage, we can provide it.  If your preference is for more of a moderate pressure, we’ll accommodate that as well. If you’re interest is in addressing an injury or a painful condition, please consider the Orthopedic Massage offering below or for a more comprehensive service click HERE to learn more about Movement Therapy.

Session Note: If you are interested in a basic full body treatment or work focused on a particular area of the body, 60 minutes is adequate.  If you’re interested in a full body treatment with focused work or a thorough full body treatment, 90 minutes or a 2 hour session is most appropriate.

Additional Modalities: are available including Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization - IASTM (i.e. Gua Sha, Gaston), myofascial release, and active release therapies. See more details on these modalities HERE.

Sports Massage

Designed for those with an active lifestyle who place a lot of demand on their body, sports massage is a therapeutic treatment that targets the unique physical and biomechanical needs of fitness/outdoor enthusiasts and athletes and provides performance and recovery benefits.

Sports massage can be used pre-activity/event, post-activity/event, or as an ongoing strategy used throughout an active season or a training process. It enhances your ability to recover from a demanding training schedule, supports you in mitigating the development of compensatory conditions and positions you to get the most out of your body when it really counts.

Session Note: If you are interested in a basic full body treatment or work focused on a particular area of the body, 60 minutes is adequate.  If you’re interested in a full body treatment with focused work or a thorough full body treatment, 90 minutes or a 2 hour session is most appropriate.

Treatment Note: Because we have an expertise that allows us to see the body through a biomechanical/movement lens, we like to factor that into the treatment approach. As a result, please wear/bring shorts and a t-shirt/tank top/sports bra to your sessions so we can address the body in ways that draping does not allow.

Additional Modalities: are available including Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization - IASTM (i.e. Gua Sha, Gaston), myofascial release, and active release therapies. See more details on these modalities HERE.

Orthopedic Massage

This massage offering is designed to specifically address the pain and dysfunction associated with orthopedic conditions including, but not limited to, neck and shoulder pain, back pain, hip pain, knee pain, and foot/ankle pain.

Orthopedic Massage is a soft tissue treatment system that involves condition specific movement assessment, soft tissue/massage treatment and corrective movement strategies. It can be an excellent complementary treatment along with other forms of rehabilitation such as physical therapy, or it can be used as a stand-alone treatment to regain pain free motion and normal function.

Service Note: If you’re looking for a comprehensive treatment service, you can learn more about Movement Therapy by clicking HERE.

Session Note: If you’re scheduling your first session, please book a 90 minute session. This will give us time for both assessment and treatment. We’ll discuss session length for all subsequent visits at the end of the first session.

Note about the assessment: Without an understanding of how your body moves in relationship to the condition/symptoms, treatment is less specific and often focused on addressing symptoms only.  The assessment provides information as to the underlying cause of the condition, therefore, the treatment is targeted and focused at resolving the root of the condition versus treating symptoms only.  If you had a misalignment in your car’s steering system that resulted in the abnormal wear of your tires, would you prefer to keep replacing the tires prematurely or would you opt for addressing the alignment issue so the tires last as they are intended to?  With that said, if the assessment is not of interest to you, please choose the Therapeutic Massage offering when scheduling.

Treatment Note: Because we have an expertise that allows us to see the body through a biomechanical/movement lens, we like to factor that into the treatment approach.  As a result, please wear/bring shorts and a t-shirt/tank top/sports bra to your sessions so we can address the body in ways that traditional massage draping does not allow.

Additional Modalities: are available including Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization - IASTM (i.e. Gua Sha, Graston), myofascial release and active release therapies, and Functional Manual Reaction (FMR). See more details on these modalities below.

Additional Modalities

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization - IASTM (i.e. Gua sha, GRaston)

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) or Gua Sha also known as scraping is a technique whereby a therapist uses a hand held instrument to identify and treat soft tissue restrictions, adhesions, and scar tissue. The design of and skillful use of these instruments provides therapeutic benefits that a therapist’s hands alone can not achieve.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is characterized by slow, sustained, and intentional pressure designed to target the fascial or connective tissues of the body that are linked to myofascial pain. Myofascial release is beneficial for many including those who have chronic conditions related to repetitive positions (i.e. sitting at a computer) and repetitive movements (i.e. running) as well as those who never fully recovered from a previous injury.

Active Release

Active release is a modality that uses joint motion and soft tissue lengthening either performed passively by the therapist or actively by the client to address soft tissue adhesions and scar tissue. The objective is to improve how the soft tissues translate or how well they move in relationship to each other. Adhesions and scar tissue can be responsible for limitations in joint range of motion and motor control inefficiencies leading to pain and injury.

Functional Manual Reaction (FMR)

Functional Manual Reaction™ (FMR) is the name that the Gray Institute coined to describe the application of hands to bone segments (i.e. pelvis and femur) in order to facilitate the optimal joint motion (i.e. hip joint motion) during a global movement (i.e. walking or running). FMR is applicable during all phases of intervention including movement/injury assessment, movement therapy/rehabilitation, and functional training/movement performance. FMR is a part of the Applied Functional Science (AFS) system who practitioners look at functional or chain reaction biomechanics to find and treat the root cause of pain or injury in addition to treating the symptoms.
